Random Selection Service / Starting the Random Selection later in the calendar year

If your company is activating the Med-Stop Random Selection service later in the year, after some "selection periods" (such as quarters) have already passed, it is important to decide whether you want to perform a full year selection according to the target percentage, or if your company can skip the selections for the already passed periods.

According to DOT regulations, if your company is established later in the year, you do not have to perform full random selections for the entire year based on the target percentage and the average number of employees in your company. Additionally, if your company has already conducted random testing using another service or software, and is now activating the Med-Stop Random Selection Service, you can skip the selection periods during which you were not using the Med-Stop service. In this case, you are responsible for providing the random selection documentation and reports for the periods when the Med-Stop service was not used. For example, if a company begins its operations and becomes a DOT regulated entity on April 1, it does not have to perform random selections for the first quarter of the year.

This can be calculated by adjusting the average number of company employees or subtracting the percentage for the first selection period. In the case of a DOT regulated drug testing random selection, the target percentage for the entire year is 50% of selections from the company's DOT regulated employee number average. Therefore, one quarter's percentage should be 12.5%. To comply with DOT regulations, this company would need to perform at least 50% - 12.5% = 37.5% selections.
